Right on the edge of Oklahoma’s panhandle, Black Mesa State Park and the nearby Black Mesa Nature Preserve provide a rugged untouched outdoor escape. At the park, guests can enjoy fishing, camping, hiking, wildlife and even a swim hole before taking in the spectacular after-dark show. Black Mesa has some of the darkest skies in the country, so be sure and stay up late to take in the majestic beauty of a night sky without the distraction of light pollution. Just a short 15 miles away, guests can hike the High Point Trail at the Black Mesa Nature Preserve. At just a little over four miles, this trail is steep in places with little shade cover, so be advised to dress appropriate for the heat of the high plains and bring lots of water.
