There were certainly lots of costumed people walking about during the day time with a lot parading around St Marks Square, posing for photographs. One suspects that there were a lot of tourists among… Full review by westy54

Definitely an interesting experience! The Venice Carnival turns the whole area into a celebration! It's great to go to the island of Burano or other Venezia surroundings, where there are also artisti… Full review by radustefan2024

Hi, I can assure you we were not up at 6am!! It does pay however to get to St Marks Square well ahead of judging. On one day we and many others were prevented by police from entering the Square and so missed the descent of the Angel. Make enquiry and see what you can find about the photo shoot at St Maria de La Salute. We lucked on to that but it must be scheduled given the number of people in costume. Much much better than St Marks Enjoy!!!!
Hi! My fiance and I are starting off our honeymoon in Venice on the last day of carnival in 2020. Would most touristic attractions be crowded after carnival? Are St. Mark's Basilica and Bell Tower typically closed when there isn't an event going on, like on the monday before shrove tuesday or ash wednesday?
A:
This year St Mark’s closed early (1:30) on Shrove Tuesday. We visited the basilica during Carnevale this year in the morning, before 10 AM and there was no line at all! Ash …
This year St Mark’s closed early (1:30) on Shrove Tuesday. We visited the basilica during Carnevale this year in the morning, before 10 AM and there was no line at all! Ash Wednesday may be busy when they are giving ashes to people - not sure what their policy is about letting visitors in at that time.
My husband and I are doing Canivale in Venice with another couple February 2020. I am so excited about seeing the parade and wanted a bit more information about reserving a table so that you can see the parade, if I understood you correctly. Just as a point of clarification, were you permitted to remain at your table during the parade? Any other tips you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
A:
Thank you, Donna, I realize that you can't sit at a restaurant during the parade and this is just a good thing to do to kill time and get where you need to be before the crowds start.
