The statewide minimum wage jumps 50 cents on January 1 to $16.50 while some cities will increase their minimum wages to a higher amount.

The new year is bringing minimum wage increases in 21 states. That means more than 9 million Americans, including Californians, are getting a pay bump this paycheck. As of January 1, the minimum wage is now $16.

Beginning Jan. 1, 2025, all minimum wage employees in California - excluding fast food employers and certain healthcare facilities - will see a 50-cent pay increase - from $16 to $16.50 an hour, according to the Labor Commissioner’s Office.
