Cineplex Posts Blockbuster Year-End 2024 on ‘Moana 2,' ‘Wicked' Box Office Boost
Despite Thanksgiving holdovers and more year-end releases, the Canadian exhibitor said domestic ticket sales in December, while up from a year-earlier in 2023, were still below pre-pandemic levels.
Cineplex December Box Office Revenue Rose Thanks to 'Wicked', 'Moana 2'
Cineplex said the momentum that began in November thanks to a slate of blockbuster films including "Moana 2" and "Wicked" continued to bring customers to the screens. Wicked is the highest-grossing movie of all time based on a Broadway musical and the third highest domestic-grossing film of all time released by Universal Pictures, it said.

Cineplex, Canada's leading entertainment and media company, reported box office revenues of $64.8 million for December 2024, representing 125% of December 2023 and 86% of 2019. Cineplex's combined box office and concession revenues amounted to $112.
