In an op-ed published in the Colorado Springs Gazette, Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman accused Denver Mayor Mike Johnston of not being truthful about how migrants, including Venezuelan gang members, ended up in Aurora.

Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman, whose city became associated with illegal immigration issues during the 2024 election, wrote in an op-ed that Denver Mayor Mike Johnston placed migrants from the

"What has been happening is a lack of information. There are accusations that we're sending people [to Aurora], but let's clear this up because it's getting old."

Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua’s infestation of the Denver suburbs that came to represent the flimsy security at the southern border was made possible by city leaders who hired nonprofits to move migrants outside of Colorado’s capital,

Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman said Denver Mayor Mike Johnston has not been truthful about how migrants, including Venezuelan gang members, ended up in Aurora. Mayor Johnston called the city's handling of migrants a success and denied allegations of "dumping" migrants in Aurora.

At the same time that the ACLU of Colorado is investigating the Aurora Police Department's cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Aurora's mayor is asking Denver's mayor for clarity on how and why the migrant population spread to Aurora.
