Former longtime Moeller football coach Gerry Faust has died at the age of 89. He led the Crusaders to four mythical national championships and five state titles.

Jumping from the high school ranks to lead one of the most storied programs in college football, he lost games but rarely lost hope.

Faust, also known as 'Fuzzy,' spent 18 years as Moeller's head coach before leaving to coach at the University of Notre Dame. He finished with a record of 178-23-2, Moeller reported.

Gerry Faust, who won five OHSAA state football championship and coached at Notre Dame and Akron, has passed away at the age of 89.
