David Lammy said a deal to enable the ‘rebuilding of Gaza with Israel safe and secure’ will allow the region to ‘move forward in an atmosphere of peace’.

Qatar has handed over drafts of a possible ceasefire agreement to both Hamas and Israel, Qatari foreign ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari said on Tuesday, adding that this is the closest point to a deal over the past months.

Hamas has accepted a draft agreement for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of dozens of hostages, two officials involved in the talks said on Tuesday. Mediator Qatar said the negotiations were at the “closest point” yet to sealing a deal.
