Given the legal baggage that comes with 'Rosemary' filmmaker Roman Polanski, James had to weigh the cons before finally committing and "making sure that there was a separation between ['Apartment 7A'] and the original film’s creators not being involved in this one.

The film attempts to fill in the backstory of Terry Gionoffrio, a minor character from “Rosemary’s Baby.” Set in the months leading up to the events of Roman Polanski’s 1968 classic, “Apartment 7A” aims to explore Terry’s life as she navigates her dreams of Broadway stardom while becoming entangled with the sinister Castevets.

Natalie Erika James' Roman Polanski prequel, though familiar, is drenched in spooky style with the ever-superb Julia Garner as its gaslit belle du jour.

The Natalie Erika James-directed feature, which counts John Krasinski among its producers, follows a struggling dancer whose relationship with an older couple takes a twisted turn.

James can shoot with effusive competence (see "Relic"). This film sleepwalks as a routine horror prequel clinging to classic nostalgia, unlike how "The First Omen" nailed the formula mere months ago.
