The U.S. government's highway safety agency has launched an investigation into reports of engine failure in up to 1.4 million Honda and Acura vehicles, according to documents posted on the agency's website on Monday.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened an investigation into more than 1.4 million Honda units regarding potential engine failure. A report from the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) describes the “failure of connecting rod bearings leading to complete engine failure” as the root of this issue.

Last year Honda recalled hundreds of thousands of vehicles due to engine failure and this year they may have to recall more.
