SpaceX's Crew Dragon capsule has arrived at the ISS to rescue NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore, who have been stranded since June.

Nasa's decision to switch Williams and Wilmore to SpaceX has extended their mission on the ISS by several months. Originally scheduled to return after an eight-day mission, they will now remain on the station until late February.

This space mission is special because Hague and Gorbunov will be the ones to eventually bring Sunita Williams and fellow astronaut Butch Wilmore back to Earth

SpaceX 's Dragon capsule has made a successful docking at the International Space Station (ISS), marking a significant step in the mission to rescue astronauts Barry Wilmore and Sunita Williams stranded there.

NASA astronaut Nick Hague and Russian cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov took off inside a SpaceX Crew Dragon from Cape Canaveral, Florida, just after 1 p.m. on Saturday. The Crew-9 capsule docked with the ISS on Sunday at roughly 5:30 p.m. Eastern time and Hague and Gorbunov entered the ISS about 90 minutes later.

By the time Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams return to Earth they will have logged more than eight months in space. Their original mission was due to last for a week.

NASA and Roscosmos docked the SpaceX Dragon capsule at the ISS to bring home astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore. Their mission extended due to technical issues with Boeing's Starliner.

SpaceX Crew 9, led by Nick Hague and Aleksandr Gorbunov, arrived at the ISS and received a warm welcome from Expedition 72 crew, including Sunita Williams.
