The NHL-leading Washington Capitals have signed goaltender Logan Thompson to a six-year contract extension worth $35.1 million. Thompson will count $5.85 million against the salary cap from when the new deal kicks in next season through 2030-31.

The Washington Capitals are one of the top teams in the NHL and much of that is thanks to the great work of goalie Logan Thompson. In his first year in Washington, Thompson has led the Capitals with a 22-2-3 record with a pair of shutouts.

It would have been a perplexing thought to many if they were told ahead of the season that the Washington Capitals were the NHL's best team and Logan Thompson was one of its top goaltenders past the halfway point.
