A man who shot and killed a woman outside of a home in a Harrisburg subdivision Monday was then shot and killed by Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office deputies after exchanging gunfire, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies responded near the Providence Manor subdivision where they saw the man shoot the woman, Observer news partner WSOC reported.

The sheriff’s office said on Tuesday that the suspect died “as a result of an apparent suicide,” according to an initial investigation, but the final determination will be made by the medical examiner’s office and State Bureau of Investigations. The suspect was identified as Willie Lawrence Wimbley, 47.
