India's navy on Wednesday simultaneously launched a submarine, a destroyer and a frigate built at a state-run shipyard, underscoring the importance of protecting the Indian Ocean region through which 95% of the country's trade moves amid a strong Chinese presence.

India made history Wednesday by commissioning two indigenously developed and manufactured warships - a class-leading stealth frigate and guided missile destroyer - and an attack submarine.

In a significant milestone for India's naval strength and shipbuilding expertise, the Indian Navy welcomed three advanced warships into its fleet on January 15. These include INS Nilgiri, the first stealth frigate from the Project 17A series;

Prime Minister Narendra Modi commissioned the Indian Navy warships INS Surat, INS Nilgiri, and INS Vaghsheer at the Naval Dockyard. These frontline combatants will enhance India's defence capabilities.
