Sudan's military leader, Gen Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has visited the presidential palace in Khartoum, after landing at the city's international airport, just hours after it was recaptured by the army.

Displaced Sudanese danced through the night in Port Sudan, celebrating a string of army advances in Khartoum and hoping they will soon return home. On Wednesday night, some wept as they clapped along to the music during the celebrations in Port Sudan,

The Sudanese army seized full control of the presidential palace in downtown Khartoum on Friday, it said in a statement, in what would be a major gain in a two-year-old conflict with a rival armed group that has threatened to partition the country.
