Riverside County leaders on Tuesday voted to back a number of measures that aim to protect immigrant residents, despite public opposition on the matter from community members.

Debate erupted at the Riverside County Board of Supervisors meeting over a resolution to evaluate how data on undocumented immigrants and the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival program is collected.

County supervisors are proposing policy at today's Riverside County Board of Supervisors meeting that would evaluate how undocumented immigrants are protected and create a website with information and resources for immigrants.

The measures were adopted over objections from the Sheriff’s Department and others who worried the board was trying to create a “sanctuary county.”
