Michigan State ascended to its highest ranking in the AP Top 25 men's college basketball poll this season on Monday with a move up one spot to No. 7 after another perfect week in Big Ten play. The Spartans went 2-0 on the week with wins over Illinois and Rutgers to improve to 8-0 in conference play.

Vanderbilt women's basketball ranked No. 23 in the AP poll released Monday morning and the USA TODAY Coaches Poll released Tuesday after defeating Alabama, 66-64, in Tuscaloosa on Sunday.

Stat to know: In Sunday's win over Maryland, Lauren Betts scored 33 points on 14-of-15 shooting, becoming the first UCLA player with at least 30 points and a 90% field goal percentage in the past 25 years and the first player at any school to do that against an AP top-10 opponent in the past 25 years.

The Lady Vols dropped one spot in the Associated Press poll after losing on the road to Texas. Tennessee is 15-4 in Kim Caldwell's first season.
