Despite protests from locals, India is building a giant hydro dam on the Siang River to counter a Chinese dam.

Estimated $137-billion hydroelectric project, which would be three times larger than China's Three Gorges Dam, has raised serious concerns on seismic risk and flooding from environmentalists and neighboring countries.

China and India will be requested to ensure that planned dams on the Siang River in Arunachal Pradesh and near the Tibet border are constructed without compromising Bangladesh’s interests, said Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan.
