Investors had mixed reactions when Rivian Automotive (NASDAQ: RIVN) reported third-quarter results last week. The financial results were disappointing, with lower revenue and a higher reported loss than expected.

Chief Financial Officer Claire McDonough adopted a trading plan to sell as many as 348,813 shares of the electric-vehicle maker.

Rivian Automotive (NASDAQ: RIVN) shares have been on a roller-coaster ride since the U.S. election on Nov. 5. A dip after Donald Trump's election victory was followed by a sharp surge in the shares on company-specific news.

An end to U.S. EV tax credits is unlikely to doom Rivian altogether. Its $5.8 billion deal to share technology with German auto giant Volkswagen ( VWAGY 0.89%), which closed earlier this week, should help insulate Rivian from near-term demand shocks in the U.S. market.
