Jon Stewart is hoping that Trevor Noah may eventually return to The Daily Show - as long as they can share the spotlight. “Am I being fired?” he joked in response to a reporter’s question backstage at the Emmys about whether he’d want to welcome the show’s other former host back to the desk.

Stewart hosted the Comedy Central series starting in 1999. When he left, Trevor Noah took the the helm and led the show until the end of 2022, after which “The Daily Show” had a series of guest hosts, including Jersey’s own Kal Penn. When the show won the 2023 Emmy for outstanding talk series in January, Noah and the cast accepted the award.
