The man accused of fatally stabbing a 14-year-old boy in the Bronx late last week has pleaded not guilty to murder, among other charges.

Mejia faces murder and manslaughter charges for the Friday morning killing of 14-year-old Caleb Rijos as the victim was walking to school.

Waldo Mejia, 29, stood before the judge Sunday (Jan. 12) facing murder charges in the stabbing of 14-year-old Caleb Rios, whom authorities say was fatally stricken in the chest on East 138th Street Friday (Jan. 10) morning as he walked to school in the Bronx, per The New York Post.

The Bronx man accused by police of stabbing a 14-year-old to death in an unprovoked attack suffered from schizophrenia and refused attempts to get him necessary medication and hospitalization, according to the man's stepbrother.

Suspect Waldo Mejia’s neighbor was afraid to leave home without first checking their Ring doorbell to make sure Mejia wasn’t around.
