Firefly Aerospace's Blue Ghost moon lander tightened its lunar orbit on Sunday before its inaugural attempt at an uncrewed touchdown, nearing a pivotal moment for one of a handful of private firms on the frontlines of a global moon race.

Initial data shows Blue Ghost touched down within its 100-meter landing target next to the Mons Latreille, a volcanic feature in the Mare Crisium, a large basin on the near-side of the moon. Firefly hosted a late-night watch party at Haute Spot, a Cedar Park concert venue, where hundreds of employees and guests watched a livestream of the landing.
