A map reveals where Heathrow will expand after the government gave a green light to the airport’s growth. The UK’s busiest airport is expected to get a third runway after confirmation by Chancellor Rachel Reeves today.

The cost of building a third runway at Heathrow Airport is estimated to be at least £14 billion and would be paid for by the airport owners, the BBC reported. However, the total cost could be much higher due to the cost of the associated road and rail infrastructure.

Plans to expand London's other airports are already further along than Heathrow's and have in the past been viewed as an alternative to a third Heathrow runway. Work is set to start this year to expand capacity at Stansted's terminal. The government is due to make a decision on Gatwick airport by 27 February.
