Thamnophis brachystoma, commonly known as the shorthead garter snake or short-headed gartersnake, is a small species of snake in the subfamily Natricinae of the family Colubridae. The species is native to the northeastern United States.

A small to medium sized snake with a short head that is not distinct from the body. Side stripes are located on the 2nd and 3rd rows of scales from the belly that may be bordered by fine black lines. Unlike the eastern garter snake, the short-headed garter snake does not have black spots between the stripes.
